Long before the term "reality television" was coined, America's Funniest Home Videos broke away from the standards of television programming and showcased people caught in the act of being themselves. For well over a decade, Americans have been videotaping those goofy, unexpected and amazing moments in life and sending them in - hoping to achieve their fifteen minutes of fame.

The appeal is simple, as explained by Vin Di Bona himself, "Adults watch because they can relate to what happens. Kids love it because they get to watch adults mess up."

The pilot aired in November, 1989, and the first episode aired on ABC on Jan.14, 1990. Comedian Bob Saget, who was also starring in the sitcom "Full House" at the time, was the first host of the show. Within weeks the show climbed the ratings and hit the number one position.

Over the years, guest stars have included such diverse personalities as Jonathan Winters, Tony Curtis, Jeff Foxworthy, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, John Stamos, Dave Coulier and Rodney Dangerfield.

For the show's ninth and tenth seasons, Daisy Fuentes (formerly of MTV) and John Fugelsang (formerly of VH1) split the hosting duties.

Tom Bergeron, known to millions of television viewers as the host of Hollywood Squares, now lends his affable charm to America's Funniest Home Videos, introducing the clips and engaging the studio audience.
