Maximum Drive
Family Channel, 1994
Series Premiere: August 29, 1994
What happens when you put a bunch of kids behind the wheels of motorized vehicles? If the format is right, you just might end up with a hit television show. With its fresh format and audience appeal, Maximum Drive" was nominated for a Cable ACE award.
Eytan Keller, one of the series' creators, summed up the appeal of the program, "It was an incredible opportunity for kids to fulfill a fantasy that everyone had when they were a child."
In this high-action, extreme sports show, three teams of three players each competed in a series of races. All the contestants were kids, between the ages of ten to fifteen, racing in different kinds of vehicles; motorized scooters, miniature all-terrain vehicles, and "Wave Runners" that traveled across water. The focus of the show wasn't on speed alone. Skill was also an important factor as the players were required to navigate through challenging obstacle courses. Each episode featured five races with the most winning team crowned "Ultimate Champion."
